This is the behind-the-scenes look at how I create all my video content, from long-form YouTube videos and podcasts to short-form vertical videos for LinkedIn, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts.

Here’s the breakdown!
(And check out the video below for a more detailed version of this with visuals of the equipment.)
For long-form YouTube videos or podcasts, I prefer using stationary mics for their superior quality and consistent frequency response. The Rode mics and Shure mics are two great options for that! When shooting on the go or creating short-form vertical videos, I opt for wireless lapel mics like the Comica Wireless or MOVO Wireless mic, which provide convenience and decent quality at an affordable price.
I primarily use two devices for recording videos. The Sony DSLR is my go-to for 4K shooting and high-quality shots that exceed the capabilities of smartphones. However, smartphones are more than sufficient for creating most videos in today's day in age.
Don't forget about tripods! Having one permanently set up in your studio and another portable tripod for shooting on the go is highly recommended. Creating a studio-like setup allows for quick and easy video production, reducing barriers and friction that may discourage content creation.
Lighting is often underrated but plays a crucial role in video quality. Even a great camera can produce subpar results without proper lighting, while good lighting can elevate a video's overall look. When shooting outdoors, take advantage of natural lighting, such as utilizing windows and favorable angles. However, when shooting indoors, having solid artificial lighting becomes essential.
Investing in a ring light is a popular choice, and I personally recommend Lume Cubes for their quality. Additionally, having sidelights can help eliminate excessive shadows and provide more control over the lighting setup. Experimenting with different light positions and angles can greatly enhance the visual appeal of your videos.
Consider adding additional elements to your video setup for a more visually appealing backdrop. These could include greenery, artwork, or plaques, as long as they add depth and interest to your background. Furthermore, having a laptop and a standing desk allows for convenient access to notes, scripts, and other resources while filming.
After shooting the raw video clips, it's crucial to establish an efficient workflow for editing and post-production. I recommend using platforms like Trello, Monday.com, or ClickUp to organize your video content. Create a workflow that progresses from raw content to completed and posted videos, ensuring a smooth and streamlined process.
Use tools like Zapier can save time and effort. For example, setting up an automation that creates Trello cards with video files as soon as they're uploaded to Google Drive eliminates the need for manual card creation. This automation allows you to focus on reviewing and verifying the video content before moving it along the workflow.
Editing can be a time-consuming process, and if feasible, outsourcing it to professionals allows you to allocate more time to other business activities. Tools like Descript, Runway, Adobe Premiere Pro, and After Effects provide various editing capabilities. Descript
